A big part of Weight Watchers, or dieting in general maybe, is finding the best substitutes for your favorite foods. One of the great go to foods are from our friends of the sea because they’re healthy and easy on any point/calorie/carb system you may be following. I prefer catfish or bass, but when I don’t get to go stock up on those, I have a bag of tilapia or swai somewhere.
Anyhow, the photos are below, but the ingredient list for one taco:
- One serving of sea food (tilapia filet)
- Seasonings, if you are brand new to cooking fish, basics are okay:
- Salt, Pepper, Garlic
- Not basics: Cumin, chili powder, cayenne
- Mind the amounts, I don’t measure anything. lightly coat the entire batch.
- Low carb tortilla
- Lettuce, onion, bell pepper
- Taco sauce, Taco Bell sauces are zero points. Double check if you are not sure.
- Shredded Cheese – Velveeta is the lowest in points.
- Whatever veggies you want on the side. Beans and corn for me.
If you cook this, good luck and enjoy! Mind your fish. 6-8 minutes on both sides at a medium heat. I like each side to be crusty. Oven baking is 35 minutes at 425. A little olive oil does not hurt the flavor, but consider your points.
Get those low carb tortillas out. I went with fajita size because 3 of them are like 3 or 4 points, and while they’re a little small, they work well for our purpose.
Tilapia are great because they’re cheap and tasty. Fish are great options because they are 0 points. Season them accordingly. I go with salt, garlic, black pepper, parsley, chili powder, a little bit of cumin. I always go a little heavy on the salt and garlic. Oh, I also loaded up with cayenne pepper because I like spice.
Velveeta shreds are the optimal shredded cheese. Now, I lost a few picks, but not shown is that I layered a leaf of romaine, some onions, and some bell peppers.
These fish, they’re perfect! I pan fried them on a medium heat. they came out very good. You can bake your tilapia if you don’t have the pan skills.
The final product: three tacos with Taco Bell taco sauce on them, black beans and corn. I used a bamboo skewer to make my tacos hold their shape. Not a bit deal. Also, you can treat this like fajitas.
